Any oral magnesium will work except the OXIDE form.

Sometimes applying topically opens up the circulation to let the blood flow into stagnant areas. Using oral in cases where the circulation is poor, may not get the mag where it is needed most.

Using the topical first, for a couple of weeks, then adding the oral may work best. Topical works best on targeted areas, like the feet, or hands. It is not recommended for whole body application.

I have found that using topical mag can be rotated though. Feet one day, hands the next and so on.

Biofreeze gel is also helpful for some people who have burning.
I use it mostly on my knees and feet when I have a flare.
