Honestly, I am really surprised you've only had to give a sample ONCE in 14 years.

I don't know where you are, if it's in the U.S. then testing is pretty much the norm now and PCP docs are getting away from prescribing opiates because of the new regulations. Doctor's opiate prescribing practices and documentation are being monitored very closely and their licenses are on the line. Since she isn't your regular doctor she may actually be doing you a favor writing for just a few to get you through till your doc is back. Otherwise in the pharmacy records it looks like your getting large numbers of pills from different docs. Not good.

The other doc may also feel uncomfortable signing off without checking you. If she signs, the responsibility for that RX ultimately falls on her. I'm NOT saying you're doing this, but if you were taking drugs not prescribed to you, something happened to you and that doc didn't check.... That would be really serious.

I know if feels intrusive but it's designed to keep us safe, even though it may not feel that way.
