KOM,
Do the motions of weight lifting but without weights or use soup cans. The Internet is full of good exercise info.
It took 1.5 years for me to get past soup cans and having setbacks from a gentle walk.
I am much more active now...I need a day or two off after 3 days at the gym but I will take that compared to where I was last year!
