An extreme, severe headache makes it difficult to do anything, even think. It lasts for hours without letting up. It may start out less intense but grow in intensity and be accompanied by other symptoms, such as nausea, vision difficulties, slurred speech.
It sounds like you had a contact point spasm of nerves and vascular structure.
Vasospams can be painful but go away after a minute or two in most cases. They are from the nerves triggering a spasm around the veins and/or arteries. I get them and they stop me in my tracks for a minute or two.
My doc said that if they go away, not to worry about them.
