Well, my uncle has taken one step forward and one step back at kind of the same time. The pneumonia has cleared up... but now he has a fungal infection in his lungs that they are trying to clear up, which could take 20 days or more to fully clear. He's still in the medicine induced coma, they brought him out for a short time to try and move his limbs a bit and he ripped off the ventilator which immediately dropped his oxygen levels to a critical point until they could get it connected again. They now restrain his arms to prevent it from happening again. He's not the happiest of campers right now as he never wanted to be hooked up to a machine and with all the medications keeping him under he doesn't have a real sense of just how short a time it's been, so in his confusion he thinks everyone is going against his wishes and are just leaving him to rot in a hospital bed.

So we are very much hoping that if he can survive long enough to clear up the fungal infection, his mind can be cleared up enough to fight to recover afterwards before he just gives up entirely. But in spite of all that, he is slowly improving in his lung functions and they have already made some adjustments to the ventilator to reduce the pressure and oxygen levels they forcing into his lungs giving him the best hope for weaning off the machine at a steady pace once his recovery begins in earnest.
