Red face Predictable?

Much is written regarding the unpredictability of the effect of ALS on any given individual: Prognosis. Some time ago, Prize4Life launched the prediction challenge and drew the attention of many teams of scholars in competition to develop algorithms to predict life expectancy and last year several teams were awarded prizes:

While some impressive results developed, no one considers the regression caused by the ALS syndrome to be predictable.
