Default Infection in the Tubing

Hi Everyone,
My son had a VP Shunt inserted when he was 2years and he is 10years old now. I would like any information or help what to do. he had a big red bump over his chest by the tubing, it happened again two days ago and this time I took him to the GP, where he confirmed that it was an infection in the tubing. He gave him antibiotics. it keeps coming back. The doctor said if the meds don't work or comes back again he needs to see his neuro. Has any1 had this before? I need to know what can happen, should I rather take him to his Neuro than to wait?
