Description

Many survivors and first responders have complained of neuropathic symptoms following exposure to the World Trade Center (WTC) attacks of September 11, 2001 or the subsequent clean-up activities. This study will investigate neuropathy among WTC survivors using interview data, neurologic examinations, skin biopsies to measure small fiber nerve densities, electromyograms and nerve conduction velocity studies. Findings of associations between WTC exposures and neuropathic symptoms would advance the field of toxic neuropathies and provide data that might affect the decision to include or exclude neuropathies in the list of WTC-Related Health Conditions covered in the WTC Health Program.
