We only paid $99 security deposit. They can sue us for any remaining damages. Even if our security deposit was equal to one month's rent, they could sue us for the cost to repair any damage that greater than that.

The carpet was old when we moved in, and we have been here for 7 1/2 years come August when we will be moving out. Because of normal wear and tear, they will have to replace the carpet no matter what. They will say they have to replace the carpet because of smoke damage, which is NOT normal wear and tear, but since they need to replace the carpet any way, I will not pay for that because that would allow them to PROFIT from the fact that we smoked in the apartment. I will pay for materials and labor to repair the smoke damage otherwise, provided the charges are reasonable. IDK about the "cat room." They may have to treat the sub floor.
