I did a little bit of searching for you. The RSDSA has a brochure called "Hospital Protocols for the RSD/CRPS Patient" that does specifically state the rule of avoiding ice on the RSD/CRPS limb. Look for it near the bottom of this page: http://www.rsds.org/4/resources/index.html

Although I am loathe to start any problems on this board, you are right to try to find information that is not from that particular doctor. The RSDSA is a very credible organization, and I recommend looking through their website very thoroughly. Not all of the information is perfect (there are a few medical studies they have posted in their "library" that are downright horrible), but it's generally the best site on the web.
