sounds like the pop ups might be caused by adware/malware that is installed on your system. You could try running a program called EWIDO.. I have found it to get rid of most of the garbage some other programs leave behind.

If you decide to try it, be sure to UNCHECK the box that asks if you want to install the google toolbar. Just what everyone needs is another toolbar
