Marie J, You can improve , if not recover if your symptoms fade away..with rest..
Search out advanced/expert therapist or chiropractors that do soft tissue and much hands on work.

Top rib mobilisations
alignment /posture work/head & shoulders not forward or hunched or rolled
get checked for trigger points in muscles ( you can't stretch or relax a muscle that has trigger points..
