A lot of clinically good doctors and good surgeons have lousy bedside manners. They either never learn how to treat any patients well, or they're just not wired to do it. I guess sometimes there may be cultural differences as well.

A LOT of doctors. I've learned that I have to weigh the benefits of continuing to see them because of their expertise against how shitty they treat me...
If your kidney doctor has an excellent reputation and/or is tied to an excellent support staff, he may well be worth hanging on to. If not, you may want to consider making a change because I doubt he will change his ways
