Your neurologist should do a nerve fiber test to get a baseline on your neuropathy. If the standard oral medications do not work, then ask about Immune Globulin infusions. There is a form of neuropathy that is autoimmune and can be better controlled with this infusion. It is costly. You can ask the pharmacy for a financial waiver and possibly get your medication for free. Check with the nurse in your doctor's office to see who calls on them for IVIG.
