although this does not apply for me since i have never gotten better, just slowly steadily worse over 17 years, it has been reported by other people who have posted here that indeed the symptoms did go in reverse as they got better. in other words they started to get again some of their original symptoms as their nerves were regrowing and reconnecting to muscles and skin.

i think you are on the right track to getting shoes for yourself that are confortable and well cushioned. muscles definitely can atrophy over time due to nerve damage. losing weight will of course help with the pressure on your feet when you walk.
