Red face on Sports and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

So I was thinking; why no basketball players with ALS?

0494 NBA (0)
1200 MLB (2) Lou & "Catfish," + Pete Frates
1696 NFL (6) Dwight Clark, Tim Green, Tim Shaw, OJ Brigance, Kevin Turner & Orlando Thomas.

Again, my hypothesis - getting jousted around makes an individual with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis regress more rapidly. Basketball is mostly no contact . . . Baseball has some contact . . . Football of course . . . :

Rates:
0 in 0500 NBA . . . below normal
1 in 0400 MLB . . . about normal
1 in 0283 NFL . . . above normal . . .

Of course this is crude statistic; for example, an athlete's career length is not factored in.
