I am so, so, so sorry to say this Bobby, but sometimes nerve damage can't be repaired, and after a certain point, you have to accept that it's permanent

And when an injury is permanent, PT is to build up the muscles surrounding the damaged area and/or the other side of the body to build up strength or work around the problem in other ways so people can walk or function better
I really fought using a cane, but I need one, and have been using one for about 10yrs now. I don't use it at home, but have had to in the past.
I think you should try using the cane whenever you are out- even if it's for a sense of security. You get used to having one
