When did the symptoms in the tongue start?
When did the teeth and gums start to feel sore?
When did the earache occur?
Did you have TMJ problems prior to the extractions?
What is your overall dental health status... do you have periodontal disease?
Do you smoke?

One of the first things to note is that all root canaled teeth are infected. Therefore, both root canaled teeth were infected at the time they were "first" root canaled and they remained infected even in spite of the second root canal treatment. Any long term tooth infection can lead to deterioration of the jaw bone which could eventually damage the surrounding tissue and nerves. Therefore, it can be difficult to determine if the current symptoms you are having are from the long term infection or the extractions. Actually, both the infection and extraction could be contributing factors.

Another possible factor for your tongue symptoms could stem from the actual injection of the anesthetic. There is always a risk of nicking a main bundle of nerves. The nerve irritation from an injection may or may not be permanent. Generally, it is not permanent if the nerves are healthy and not damaged from infection.

What did the dentist suggest you do regarding the symptoms?
Is the dentist an oral surgeon or a general dentist?

Bryanna
1. tongue started hurting after 2 days.
2.after 2 days
3.earche was occuring before tooth extraction
4. i clench my teeth and graind my teeth a lot in sleep.
but never went for TMJ doc.
5. excellent teeth. the tooth has slight probllem since it has old filling. the dentist was money maker. he told root canal is needed. 2 crowns he put on never fitted right after going to him 4/5 times. he did root canal on the next teeth as previous dentist had ruined it. I had headache and earched developed due to all this. root canal teeth was not settling . lastly i decided extraction(with bone graft)as i wanted to move on. that was a mistake now i know. the extraction was done by oral surgeon but he is saying everything is looking great and healing. but if nerve damage is happened then its not because of him. he told to go to GP. pretty much he got rid of me.
i do not have any severe symtoms. i would say pain level is 1 or 2.
tongue hurts after i speak a lot.
the premolar next to extraction feels heavy as if it is taking all the weight.
i would say instead of pain , abnormal feeling is more. as if i m forcing my upeer teeth and lower teeth meeting together. i make them touch without knowing.
i have no issue of headache any more.earche is 1.
i have developed high anxiety after this as first dentist closed his practice and it seems i was his last patient. (he was recommended by friend) . 2 of good teeth gone because of dentist wanted money. I wish i would have taken second opinion. but i never realized it would go this far. the crown not sitting properly has ruined everything and i was running out of patience.
may be i should have given 1 more month for root canal teeth to settle down.
i m touching my premolars each other even while writing this. i m feeling it is causing TMJ issue. am i right ? but why tongue ? my tongue hits my open premolar when i talk. is it because of that.
i took neurosurgeon appointment next monday but i m thinking this is TMJ issue more than nerve.
what can be done ?
