A great amount of memory issues are because the person has too many distractions. Those same distractions might not have been a problem previously but now they prevent the brain from receiving the information. Previously, the brain could filter out the distractions and focus on the information. Now, simple distractions or even just ambient sounds block the brain from paying proper attention to the subject at hand so it can store it in memory.

One of the most important skills we need to learn is to turn off or leave areas with distractions so we can absorb information. Reading books can be a struggle when the author adds too much detail.

Think of it like juggling balls. Some can learn to juggle 3 balls. Better jugglers can juggle 5 or 6. Give them a 7th ball and they drop them all.

We can juggle one or two with our minds. Add a third or fourth and we drop them all.
