Concussion while sleepwalking
In the last 2 years I suffered from several concussions during the night (at least one major, and I think 3 or 4 minor). The scenario is always the same: I am fine when I go to bed, and wake up on the next day with a visible bump + tender spot on my head + all the early concussion symptoms. I remember going to bed but nothing else. After each event I have to take several weeks off work and then I struggle to get back to baseline.
The only rational explanation I have found is that I get injured while sleepwalking. The analgesia associated with sleepwalking is so intense that people do not necessarily wake up from the pain even from a broken leg (or a fall from the third floor), so I am assuming that a concussion could also easily go unnoticed.
Does anyone else have experience with sleepwalking? It is incredibly frustrating and worrisome. All my good periods of recovery are ruined by the next injury.
I can't go on like this but I don't know what to do to protect myself during the night. I have an alarm with a motion detector near the door of my room (80 decibels) but it does not seem to wake me up.
