Some people are willing to take bigger risks than others. I was just saying that at one time I was like you--had little use for dentists, thought it was a waste of time and money to keep going in for the recommended periodic checkups--and I think I paid a heavy price for that. Nowadays I go to dentists. I don't always follow their advice, and that's OK with them. If they're any good as dentists, they don't pressure me.

Most good dentists will even try to save you a few dollars in any way they can.

I don't think they're sneaking sugar into our toothpaste but I agree that some do make quite a bit of money.

I've noticed that bridgework must be their favorite thing to do because it's pricey enough to be very rewarding, IMO.

On the other hand, I've had a couple of bridges done and have been quite happy with them. One I'm wearing now has been in my mouth for over 40 years. Bridges typically last an average of only 20 years but I was lucky. And had a very fine dentist.
