Hello, I am new, and this is my first post. I have scoliosis and just went through 2 surgeries to fix my lumbar spine. My vertebrae in my L3 through L5 were completely gone and my bone was severely deteriorated. I am a supervisor in a restaurant and I was unable to work. I went through physical therapy and chiropractors. Injections and homeopathic therapies. Supplements. All of this for years and not being able to work for my family. I was terrified about surgery but it got to the point where paralysis was right around the corner and I ran out of options. I had a lumbar lateral and posterior fusion and laminectomy. My first surgery was to fix the vertebrae, which was a 50/50 chance of success. the 2nd surgery was to straighten the spine from the scoliosis. 2 surgeries days apart. It has been 2 weeks since the surgeries and I am doing pretty good. the first surgery was a success. even better that the doctor had hoped. The 2nd surgery was also a success. My pain level is high but i was up and walking hours after surgery. I have a lot of restrictions. no bending lifting or twisting. very difficult because you have to calculate every move. everything is harder. I have a walker, cane and wheel chair. A shower seat and potty chair. i need a caregiver at home. the only thing that happened that was a surprise is that i have weakness in my right leg with nerve pain. it gets better everyday and the doctor says it does happen sometimes but will go away. I have a lot of physical therapy but it makes the pain better. everyday i am able to do something i wasnt able to do before. the doctor says i will be able to go back to my job in a couple of months to 3. which was a surprise because i lift bend and twist all day. The pain i was having is completely gone. the pain in my neck is gone too. The doctor said we were going to have to work on that next because the scoliosis is every where. but it is gone now. overall i am happy with my results. the hardest part is letting people help me. ive always been the type of person to do everything myself. it is teaching me that it is ok to ask for help. we all need other people. i hope this helps even a little.
