I stopped smoking 3086 days ago (about a year and a half after quitting booze). I was at 3 to 4 packs a day(!), and had smoked for 35 years... I did start smoking a lot more when I got sober.
The head shrink in rehab told us one of his biggest frustrations was patients who managed to stop drinking, only to kill themselves a few years later through smoking. That always stuck in my mind.
I was not able to do both at the same time - I'm pretty sure I would have failed. But after 1.5 years sobriety I found the motivation to quit smoking too.
As always, the good is not the enemy of the perfect, so I'd say tackling the biggest problem first is OK. Once you feel comfortable with that, consider tackling the rest.
