About the food, I went looking for information on food storage during a power outage, and everywhere I looked (FDA, CDC, several health Websites) I was told sternly that many dairy products (and other foods--there's a long list) should be tossed out if a power outage lasts more than 4 hours. So I'm hoping to be able to replace my milk, cheese, yogurt and eggs very soon. Butter is OK, and the good news is that frozen food is good for 24-48 hours, depending on how full the freezer is.

This food I'm tossing out may be OK but the rule is: "When in doubt, throw it out."
