I'm not sure exactly what hydrocodone is as our names are different here. I imagine it's like our panadeine which is codeine mixed with something else, usually paracetemol and used for moderate pain. There are different strengths though.
Panadeine only has a 1/2 life of barely 4 hours from memory. I could be wrong, but that's a long 23 hours of the rest of the day that you're doing without relief from pain.
I was thinking about this later and came back to edit my original message and to say they probably don't want to give you more hydrocodone in case it interfers with your breathing considering that's the big problem, but there are other methods of pain relief and types of medications that shouldn't interfer with breathing and it's unfair to leave a patient with so many health issues affecting them so badly and not offer alternatives. Quality of life!!!
