I wish I could say something helpful about your hand problem. I find hand impairments to be especially difficult but the one you describe isn't among those I've had.
If it's of an help, the hand problems I've had--a finger that no longer works or is too painful to use, fingers permanently bent out of shape --have all either got better with time and patient waiting (plus the occasional splint), or there have been work-arounds.
By now you will have seen the doctor. Did the hand problem have any connection to the shoulder pain, in the doctor's opinion?
