LOUISVILLE (AP) -- The University of Louisville's Movement Disorder Program has been declared a "center of excellence" for research and treatment of Parkinsons disease.

The program functions from the Frazier Rehab and Neuroscience Center in downtown Louisville. It joins more than 30 other programs worldwide in receiving the foundations highest designation.

The centers of excellence are intended to be places where Parkinsons patients, family members and medical professionals can turn for the most up-to-date research and services.

The Movement Disorder Program is the only Parkinson Foundation center of excellence in Kentucky. Others in the region are at Nashville's Vanderbilt University and at the Indiana University School of Medicine at Indianapolis.
