Ribbon Ocean City Fisherman Lives On Through Friends

Ocean City Fisherman Lives On Through Friends
By JACOB VERDIS -- WMDT 9/2/2007

Rick Geoghegan was a former vietnam vet and avid fisherman. He died in December after battling Lou Gehrig's disease. But a part of Rick lived on .... Thanks to an odd request he left just days before he passed away. Ocean City Fisherman Captain Dave Wentling says his friend told him, "I've let my hair grow long and before they close the casket up I've given instructions to the mortician to clip off my ponytail, give it to your son Josh and have him incorporate strands of my hair into the sea witches. I'd like to fish a few more tournaments with you."
Captain Wentling and his son Josh did just that. They decided to tie his hair into the witches during their preparations for the 20th Annual Ocean City Tuna Tournament. But what happened next blew their minds. "By golly Rick brought us some good luck, we won the tournament," says Wentling.
The captain's boat the "Instigator," took first place in the total weight category, earning over one-hundred and thirty-thousand dollars. The prize, though, was just icing on the cake. "We were just real proud Rick could fish a few more trips with us. He was there with us."
