Default Seafood in Grocery Stores

Your post is very informative about the dangers of mercury- including where and how one can become contaminated. Unfortunately, most people are unaware of exactly what type of fish to avoid despite advisories from both the FDA and the EPA. Wouldn't it be helpful for grocery stores to actually post this information on signs at the seafood aisle? It would help people to know what type of fish to avoid and what is safe to eat.

Many grocery stores already have agreed to put these informative signs at their seafood sections. These grocery chains such as Whole Foods, Safeway, and Wild Oats have shown their concern for their consumers’ health and safety. Other stores, have yet to take this into account, and refuse to put up these signs. These, "red-listed" stores include popular chains such as Costco, Giant, and WalMart. Oceana, a conservation group, wants signs to exist in all grocery stores. Their website includes an extensive list of “green” and “red” stores. In addition, they have an interactive map to help you find your nearest green store. You can check it out at their mercury web page.
