Default Outlook Express is driving me crazy

Hi all.

Don't know if anyone has had this happen. So I'll tell you what's been happening and if there's an option I can turn on or off, please let me know.

I have a particular e-mail as my default e-mail. It's my husband's email address. And when I want to view my e-mail I just go up to File, switch identity, click on my email address and it prompts me to click the x on three little boxes that pop up on my screen, and when I do all of this, my own e-mails come up.

Being doing this for a year. So if Alan goes on the computer first, he can automatically view his e-mails with no switching. And when I go, I do the switch itendity thing. No big deal doing this.

However, I have noticed that in the past week, I am getting 2 to 3 copies of the same e-mail at once.

I might have 50 emails in my e-mail box (and so does Alan, I checked).

I pull up my e-mails and there might be 3 replies from this forum (when there should be 1). All three are the exact same e-mails.

Then I'll get spam. 3 of the same 3-mails.

Then I'll get an email from my sister in law . Three of those two.

What the heck is going on. There's something with my Pop 3 thing that tells me "your pop 3 server (at least I think it's a pop 3, don't exactly remember but there's a Pop in the little message that comes up on my screen.

This happens when I want to switch identities from Alan's email to my e-mails.

I'll do the x'g out of the stuff, and all of a sudden MY EMAILS ARE NOT COMING UP. Then I'll go on the internet and all of a sudden I get a little message saying "your pop 3 server is not responding, what do you want to do, and it gives me the option "try again in 60 seconds", or "cancel".

I hit the cancel button, and all of a sudden MY EMAILS COME UP.

So anybody have a clue what is happening. How can I stop getting 3 emails of the same e-mail and why, when I switch identities, it doesn't always happen immediately?

Thanks to you most knowledgable computer people.

Melody
