Dear MyMorgy
I like that way you put that.
It is perfect.
Years ago I narrowed down my criteria for a partner to one thing. I wanted someone who had a strong desire to talk to me about what was going on in his/her head. ...someone who wanted me to offer occassional advice.
I remember saying that I did not care if they were 1) in jail, 2) a republican, or 3) gay.
Then I decided that 1 or 3 would be ok but not 2. 2 would be completely unacceptable even if I got exactly what I wanted otherwise.
Well I got exactly what I want. Except hubby is a republican. That is what I get for being stupid enough to make such a list!!
(Also, I have since learned not to ask for/spell out what I don't want.)
He's a rock (and I need that), but with that comes some stubborness.
We've been together 11 years and lived together 1 year in October.
The living together is new for us.
We try to let each other have lots and lots of space, so to speak. The bigger apt will help with that eventually I hope.
Also, he exists somewhere on the functioning but un dx'd spectrum. And he has a few neuroses.
