Hi everyone! I have found my way to neurotalk!
My journey to this place has been interesting. I would like to breifly share my story.
I had a neurological event June of 06 that was diagnosed as a stroke, and was the seemingly beginning of the onset of many neurological symptoms, cognitive and physical, that lead me to wonder if I had MS given the way they presented. As I learned about this disease process, I realized that several of my symptoms had been happeniing for years, just not so markedly. This last year and a half has been quite overwhelming.
Another issue that surfaced soon after my "event" was the discovery that my homocysteine was found to be elevated, yet my B12 was well within normal and my B6 was actually high. Nothing I did really made too much of a dent in that level until I recently figured out that while my B12 had been normal, I might have a functional deficiency.
A month ago I started taking mega doses of sublingual methyl-B12 (3,000 mcg 2x's/day) and my homocysteine responded promptly by dropping below high normal for the first time a week later (a drop of over 4 full points from the original value). Now I am noticing that several of my neurological symptoms are improvoing - some a lot; and this week, after a new MRI of the brain, I found out that I didn't have a stroke after all, my brain MRI is clear and the neuro doesn't know what to make of the first one now. Plans are for a cervical and thoraxic MRI just to make sure MS can be ruled out.
I found my way here looking for information on B6 as my B6 levels have been consistantly high. Thank you to mrds for the information shared here which indicates that perhaps the reason for this evelated B6 is that I may also have a problem convering B6 into its active form P5P.
This is all very interesting to say the least.
