tThe Tucson-based Muscular Dystrophy Association has created an advocacy position in Washington, D.C., to boost its federal lobbying effort.
Annie Kennedy, former director of the MDA's division for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease), has been named to the new post of MDA vice president of advocacy.
Kennedy started with the MDA in 1998 as a case aide in the Baltimore district office in Towson, Md., after serving as an MDA summer camp volunteer for 10 years. After working as a health-care service coordinator with the MDA in Reston, Va., Kennedy moved to MDA national headquarters in Tucson in 2006 to head the ALS division.
