Red face update...

With a little distance to reconfigure our minds...

We came home ready to deal.

First thought-- remove Itunes...this was the easiest.

So I went to control panel and removed it.

Since Ebay was the most common place for the DSL to fall apart, I went
to Ebay and moved around there...no problem, yet.
Before the hourglass was staying on the screen each time I went to a page.
Now it loads quickly...no problemo.

This computer came with QuickTime already, so the upgrade just used that.
But Itunes was hooked into that same upgrade so I guess it piggybacked in. Now even the icon for it is GONERS.
It must have had something on it that conflicted with our router software.
This happened once before, so I tend to think something was similar.
The laptop does not have Itunes on it, either, so it worked fine alone on DSL.

I guess it is best not to put new things on an old (2yrs old) unit. With computers changing so fast, etc...it is just a mess these days.

We ran Avast...no hits. Spybot is next.

Thanks Curious for the advice. I can't remember exactly what day I did the downloads...so I was stumped on that too. <shrugs shoulders>
