Default New Member with posible PN ?

Hello All.
My name is Jerry. I am a physically active 58 year old. In the past 4 years I road a bicycle approximately 14000 miles. On April 28th of this year (2007) I crashed on my bicycle and fractured my pelvis. I needed emergency acetabular fracture surgery on my right hip. The surgery was performed the following day on April 29th at Cedar Sinai Orthopedic Center in Los Angeles.
The fracture repair was done using a metal brace that was screwed into the pelvis to hold the fractures in proper alignment while the bones healed. The brace is permanent. A few weeks after the surgery I started feeling numbness and tinging in both feet, predominantly in my right foot. I mentioned it to the surgeon and he thought it odd that both feet were effected but wanted to wait and see how it progressed. I did tell the surgeon that I had experienced occasional numbness in my toes after long cycling rides before the surgery. The numbness diminished over the next few months and I didn't really notice it much until about 5 weeks ago. Since then the numbness and tingling in both feet has become worse. It is still more evident in my right foot. My insurance would not allow for a visit to the original surgeon so I visited an Orthopedic Surgeon within my insurance network. The new surgeon does not think the numbness is related to the surgery but thinks I have PN. I am having an EMG and conductive tests ? next week. I am not diabetic.
I am not really experiencing pain, just the feeling I am wearing squishy gloves on my feet, feels like I and walking bare foot in deep sand. The numbness seems to subside at night and gets worse thru out the day.
Anyway I am very concerned about how this will progress and how bad it will get. So far I am not have problems walking or exercising.
Your thoughts and comments would be appreciated.
Jerry
