Mel, in the old days, BARBERS did some forms of surgery..blood letting, dentistry etc. Doctor's didn't become surgeons and solidify the profession, until more recently. (last 100 yrs or so.)

It is pretty interesting.

Looks like Johnny Depp is well suited to this role. I think he is creepy...and does these roles well. (I won't be attending this movie however! )
