Finally, the 'Ice Princess' melts


After reading the letter Thursday defending Hillary Clinton for showing a little emotion, I had to respond.

I am writing because the author of the letter, while defending Clinton, perhaps unknowingly maligned one of the greatest New York Yankees who ever lived. Juxtaposing the emotions that Lou Gehrig expressed during his farewell address, after being diagnosed with what is now known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, to one of actor Tom Hanks' lines in a movie is a preposterous way for the writer to support her thesis.

The context of Hanks' movie line was funny. Gehrig's words and tears were not. The man was told he was going to die, and yet he felt lucky because the fans' applause told him just how much they cared.

Insofar as the other male comparisons are concerned, lighten up. Some people show their emotions, and some do not. If Cinton's show of emotions was sincere, it is about time. But, in all fairness, Clinton has been referred to as the "Ice Princess" for good reason, and I think most would agree that had it been someone such as Geraldine Ferraro showing emotion instead, it would not have become the issue that it has.
