4 acres of the land is my tree nursery. I am a landscape designer and grow trees for part of my business and also sell to local nurseries. I have done this since 1996. The rest of the land is where our home is situated and access to the tree nursery. The actual landscaped portion of our place is 3/4 of an acre. It is very easy to maintain (thanks to my wisdom!). Automatic sprinkler system and low maintenance plants and grass that doesn't require that much mowing. I also have a riding mower! I do love to do yardwork, but alas! it is very difficult for me to do these days in the heat and I work. PODH doesn't so that job has now fallen to him - grumble grumble grumble!
There isn't much to maintaining of the tree nursery. Pruning in the spring and fall, spraying when the trees are dug for sale (easier to reach!), and then mowing between the rows once a month. We share a tractor with our neighbors. Another task for PODH - watching him wrangle the tractor the first couple of seasons was a hoot! Let's see, he took out a section of fence, part of the irrigation system and ran over his cell phone! He can taxi a 737 but could not drive a tractor! Go figure! And do you think he would listen to me! NO WAY!
He's gotten much better now - out of necessity. It got too expensive!
Anyway, that's the story of our land. Business. But, we do live in a farming community that is being encroached upon. We have city limits on two sides of us now.
