When we met with the surgeon we took her mamogram films in (the report said she was clear). The surgeon pointed to the film and said there it is right there. They had misread her mamogram.
Here is what we have learned: Insist that your FILMS be sent to your doctor and ask the question "has this been compared to my last year's mamogram?". First, this gives a second pair of eyes to look at the film. Second, you have an estabilished relationship with your doctor because you chose him or her. Let's face it. People pay more attention to relationships over films. YOUR doctor is going to be more careful than someone who simply looks at film all day. Finally, think about our neuros. I know my neuro looks at every film I have done and compares it to the written report. Why would we expect any less from our ob/gyn?

Thanks for the reminder. I did my self exam today and got my note in the mail that it was time for my mammogram. Although my mom didn't die from breast cancer,(I lost her to a stroke),I grieve her to this day. I'm so sorry for your loss. I most def will ask my doctor to look at my films and compare them to my previous.
