We've also thought about decreasing the height of some of the counters in the kitchen, so that whilst I am doing preparations in the kitchen I could be sitting on a chair or stool.

Does anyone have any links to share with good plans or any suggestions that would be helpful to us.

Thanks!
Go to aarp.org, it has, on the left side, a clickable area called HOME DESIGN, within which they have tips and ideas for every room in the house, and for important features within those rooms. Hope this helps.
