Debbie Roe has been a teacher at Gymnastic World in Fort Myers practically since it opened in the 1970's.
She says she's always loved to teach gymnastics to kids. "I don't have kids of my own so they were always like my kids," she says. "I love the kids and I love the parents."
But a few months ago, Debbie was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. She's no longer teaching gymnastics but the folks at the gym are now helping her.
They're staging a fundraiser and barbeque this weekend at Lakes Regional Park in Fort Myers. Gymnastic World owner Chris Brooks-Dickey says the event, which runs from noon to 3pm, will feature a silent auction and activities for kids.
Items on the silent auction include limo service, condo retreats and a spa package.
