Tongue This is what I got??

I probably cheated, using my daughter's fancy programable calculator....and, I might have confused things by breaking them down the way my brain works.....but;

if there are 60 seconds in a minute,
and 60 minutes in an hour,
there are 3600 seconds in an hour,
and that would mean there are 86400 secons in a day (24 hours). If any of that is wrong,....well...then the rest of this for sure is too! LOL

Ok. If there are 86400 seconds in a year....then we have to figure out this "5,000 million" year thing. Right? What I did, was multiplied 1,000,000,000 (one million *correction - 1,000,000 is one million. This is where I got my 3 xtra 0's. LOL) by 5,000. That would give me whatever "5,000 million" years equals, right?

So, that is what I did, and what I got was:
5,000,000,000,000 (which I believe is 5 trillion?). [which I got wrong. Scroll down and see the 5 billion that Lil got. I had 3 too many zero's here, and am VERY glad that she put her answer up!! ]

Now...I used Meghan's fancy TI Programmable calculator for this part, because it was the only one around here that I figured could handle all those zeros! LOL.

I divided 5,000,000,000,000 years by the 86400 secs/day as per the directions...and I got:
57870370.37 years/sec (move decimal up 2 places. Scroll down to see correction Lil got)

As far as I can figure, that is the answer to your 7a. Now...I seem to have blown a fuse when it comes to the 7b part (about columbus and what not...), but I will keep thinking on it, if someone would come along and tell me if they think that I did this first part right?

Hope this has helped out at least a little bit...

(((Hugs)))
Jose
