Wow, your mom & son have quite the anniversaries to celebrate now...and thank God for them!!!

As for your son, encourage him to walk around whatever inside areas you have to open those lungs. Remember that (in all of the cases I've read) they had to deflate one or more to do the surgery, and if we don't open them up, that can sometimes later cause problems. So breathe big, deep, as a special exercise. (Obviously you can't do it for long as you'd get dizzy.)

If it were me, I would do anything with those hands that would involve what we call in work comp "fine manipulation." No computer, games, art, writing, etc. Unless and until PT says to. For me, that is what made me sick, you see?
