Default got the blues?

The blues, depression, and serotonin all go hand in hand. Is the clue there? It has long fascinated me the way our culture stores wisdom in the language. "He saw red!" may be at the other end of the spectrum in more ways than one. Why do we say "green" with envy. "Yellow" for cowardice?

fascinating stuff; makes you wonder about the origins of the phrase "feeling blue" - why that is associated with negative, rather than positive feelings.
