Default Questions about my son's OCD

I am new to this site. My son is 9 and has begun symptoms of OCD over the last 6 months. To this point it seems to be obsessive only where he has disturbing thoughts. He also seems to be developing more anxiety in the way of a phobia of fire drills at school which has been more of a problem for him recently. My questions relate to the type of thoughts/feelings he is having. One of the things that he mentions is he is bothered (with an icky feeling) about the lettering/words on a birthday balloon he just got. It is a Star Wars balloon and he feels like the movie is bad and he probably shouldn't watch it. He is the kind of person that always wants to do the right thing so I am thinking this feeling is typical of someone with OCD. The movie has an evil character (Vader) and it makes him feel like he is doing something wrong by watching it. Does this sound like anything anyone else experiences?
Also, he is highly emotional. When he watches a movie or hears a song (mostly with violin) he cries. He has identified that the violin does this to him.
He was seeing a therapist in the fall for about 10 weeks for CBT and improved a lot. I also changed his diet (although recently we have strayed quite a bit) to eliminate/reduce dyes, high fructose and preservatives and he did improve also so we never knew if it was the diet or the counseling or both that helped. Possibly it was the general waxing and waning that generally happens with OCD. I just wanted some feedback on these types of behaviors. I tend to be the one he comes to and then we discuss it. I am not sure if analyzing his thoughts are the best thing to do. I do not want to make the situation worse by causing him to remunerate on them. I just want him to be able to talk openly so that more serious problems don't come later.
Thank you for reading and I look forward to your replies.
