I do know from breaking my elbow, that breaks in/around joints can be bad because as the bones grows back together you get outgrowths of bone that can (depending on where they are located) inhibit joint mobility.

Now that might not be as important in a big toe as an elbow, but something that should be considered. As your big toe is so important for balance. Your doctor might be the only person that would be able to tell if it would be a problem.

Just something to consider...

Thats what happened when I shattered my big toe, the joint (the one near the toe nail) grow together and I can't bend that toe like I use to. I can walk just fine because it wasn't the joint near the foot.
