We have a Medicare system... but.... it is only for those who are retired 65 and over (I believe that's still the age... it changes from time to time)
OR
those who have an "acceptable" disability. (which is hard to get---many people wait YEARS to get approved for Social Security Disablilty and Medicare)
We also have State programs...Medicaid, MediCal--California....not sure what all states call their programs but it can be as hard to get as Medicare.
Other than that it's either private insurance or cash out of pocket.
Yes, the HEALTHCARE system in the U.S. just plain SUCKS!!!
