KUSA - If you visit his home, 8-year-old Peter Nichols will proudly show you his collections of snails, bugs and Transformers.
He will also tell you about the collection of angels which he has gathered from around the house and displayed on the mantel. The angels belonged to his mother, Lisa, who passed away in November.

"I wish I had a time machine so I could go back and once they find a cure, I can bring it with me and do it," said Nichols.

Nearly four years ago, Lisa Nichols was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. It is a terminal disease that usually kills patients within two to five years of the diagnosis. Even though doctors named the disease nearly 140 years ago, there is still no cure and very little treatment.

Now, the Nichols family is working to raise awareness of the disease and funds for research. March 15 will be the first time the family attends an annual fundraiser for ALS without Lisa.
