I THINK I know what you might be saying as being a lab tech. Perhaps exposure to certain chemicals? I know I might be mixing apples and oranges here but my niece is an Emergency Vet Tech and I know there has been more than once that she was stuck with a needle. Anyway, she contracted Guillain Barre and yes it was from a virus (determined in the long run). However, the neurologists also had a spinal tap done to see if and what she had been exposed to. The Disease Board was also on hand trying to help figure it out. And it was amazing; there were two things; can't remember them now and I would have to ask her, that showed up in her spinal fluid and from dogs; one was Parvo exposure but I forget the other one. Anyway, she was treated with two or three IVIG's and recovered. As far as street drugs go, I don't know other than what Melody posted.
