Great advice by all!
Probiotics (milk-free and gluten-free) that are
meant for nursing moms, should help! See a good health food store's probiotic sections. Avoid probiotics that contain FOS's (fructo-oligo-saccharides). These FOS's do feed the good bacteria, in
milk-free preparations, but, the FOS's can also feed bad bacteria, resulting in digestive upsets! FOS's are not needed, if she takes the probiotics daily. This solves the problem of the probiotics not "colonizing" in her large intestine, due to lack of availability of their favorite food--milk.
Also, in case she might have a period (she might not, since nursing), she should
avoid internal tampons, which incubate the yeast (Candida) cells (like how tampons incubate toxic shock syndrome bacteria).
For a sweetener that is very natural, and if she tolerates dates well, she could try putting a few organic dates in a glass of good quality water, (after pitting the dates), and then, blenderize and use the date/water mixture. Or, she could use a small amount of brown rice syrup (gluten-free).
I'm surprised that her docs allowed her to take a strong anti-fungal medication, while nursing!
